My name is Joyce, and I’m a mother about ready to accept a big change in our family. Child #2 is leaving for college in the summer and I’m rather sad to see him move on and yet so proud of the maturing young man he is.
Our daughter is nine years older than he is and we’ve been through the whole “leaving home for college” phase before with her. When she left for a university halfway across the United States I felt pretty sad and lonely for a time, but with a 9-year-old son at home life resumed into a routine pretty quickly with sports, school, homework, loads of laundry, and his hungry stomach.
Now it’s his turn to venture away from home and head for college, and frankly … I’m not sure what to expect this time around ! I’ve already been feeling the tug on my heart – a reluctance to see him go and yet willing to let him go. We’ve raised two children and had one or both living in our home for over 26 years. What’s next ? I have no idea !
Share your thoughts or experiences with me – all who have watched your children move on with their lives … and yours begins a new season and perhaps takes on a whole new purpose. And for anyone who can take a few moments out of your busy day to check out the categories on this site. I’d love to hear from you, too !
